    Default Possible front wheel bearing?

ok i've got this whirring noise coming from the front left tyre when going about 80k's
the noise doesnt change pitch at all if im doing over 80k's
been told by my local tyre place that it may be a mechanical problem, but told me to swap the two left hand tyres to make sure its not the tyre
incase it is a wheel bearing is there any way i can check to make sure it is/isnt?
if it is should it be changed asap?
    thanks rob

    G'day,
When I had a suspected wheel bearing problem (it was a rear wheel on a FWD) the Mechanic I took it to jacked the car up and spun the wheel (by hand) looking for any irregularities in its rotation. May be a bit harder for the front but could give it a go to start with??

Jack up and pull or wobble the wheel left to right by hand quickly and see if there is any sloppiness of moment from the bearing.

Could be just tyre wear. Mine had a similar noise. Put new tyres on and the noise went away.

dont think its tyre wear as they checked over the tyres and they seem to be wearing ok
i might try putting on the spare and see if it changes anything
if not then i'll swap the two left hand side tyres
will check this out once the weather clears up
thanks for the input so far

Protip: Rocking it left and right will tell you whether or not your tie rod end needs replacing.

For bearing check, try and move it with your hands top and bottom

Oh another thing is what tyres do you have on? When I had my little problem they put it down to the tyre tread and compound (Pirelli P5000 i think) They where 75% worn at the time, replaced them and problem was gone. But I still bought the $312 bearing & hub didn't I Just an idea anyway. Let us know how you go!!

so for bearing check am i grabbing the wheel from the top and bottom and wobbling it? or just see if theres any movement?
